Happy National Flip Flop Day
For those of you who may be wondering the origins of the flip flop – the answer is Egypt.
For those wondering about when they became a integral piece of western foot couture, it was during WWII- the soldiers were bringing them back from Japan to America
I am eternally grateful for their service in keeping a barrier between me and disgusting pool decks/change room floors
You can catch myself and Duncan celebrating them real hard here
I have taken so many nature themed photographs since moving to British Columbia with my Canon in tow, that it was hard to choose what to share on this National Nature Photography Day
As I scrolled through my portfolio, the most striking of the bunch were those of the dinosaurs I spotted grazing in Richmond about a month ago
I have never seen such a variety of dinosaurs gathered in the same location, living peacefully together
Also, amazingly for anyone familiar with capturing wildlife on film, they were incredibly still and easy to photograph
What beautiful, majestic creatures #blessed
National Bourbon Day!
As wonderful as it would be to head down to Bourbon Street, New Orleans, I settled for the 83rd best bar in the world, Keefer Bar in Chinatown, Vancouver
Their drinks involve exotic ingredients and the use of blowtorches.
I planned on heading out for a basic Old Fashioned, in honour of the day, but upon viewing their cocktail list, there were several bourbon based drinks to choose from
Christina started with the Chinatown Sour-Wild Turkey Bourbon 101, Fernet Branca, lemon juice, astragalus/ orgeat syrup (right)
Steph had the Opium Sour- Wild Turkey Bourbon, Grapefruit, lemon, tamarind, poppyseed tincture (left)
And I sort of stuck to my guns and had a slight variation on an Old Fashioned and had a Bold Fashioned- Wild Turkey 101 Bourbon, coconut gomme, house bitters (front centre)
They were so damn good, the service was great as was the company
If you are ever in the area I highly recommend checking this place out !
International Axe Throwing Day
This was easy to partake in thanks to the axe Graham and Kathleen gave me for my Paul Bunyan Birthday this year
I basically hucked it around the apartment, trying to capture it with my Boomerang app
Here are a few action shots
