Day 207 – July 26

July 26 was National Bagelfest Day

I did some surface research into what Bagelfest Day was all about and couldn’t find much – seems like I was to just eat a bagel, as was my inclination on National Bagel Day

So I did.

This boring whole wheat bagel with Kraft strawberry jam was my petit dejeuner before hitting the Nis’ga Nation Auto Tour with Christina

What an awesome adventure

For those unfamiliar, as I was before I went, the Nisga’a people are literally the First Nation of Canada – they ‘won’ a land dispute and now the settlement in the Nass River valley, nearly 2,000 square kilometres of land, is officially recognized by the government of Canada as Nisg̱a’a

The Auto Tour is a self guided tour of the Nisga’a Nation. The map was user-friendly and the signage was impossible to miss. The sites were well kept and the each point of interest was unique and interesting.

We saw water falls and lava beds and suspension bridges and villages and totem poles. The highlight of the day was the naturally occurring hot spring we enjoyed in the rain. It was the hottest hot springs I have ever experienced

Oh yeah, and this. This was totally a close second to the hot springs.

Thanks, bagels, for fuelling such an interesting adventure! And thanks Nisga’a Nation for allowing me to take in your beautiful sights.
