October 19 – Day 293

National Kentucky Day

Nothing is more Kentucky than bourbon … I mean besides the Kentucky Waterfall kentucky_waterfall.gif.7de0949fc74a6ae825480ec6c35291c0.gif

So I celebrated, at work, by making a fuck tonne of our Old Fashioned’s and not denying myself one 😉

How we do, just so you know :

  • 2 oz of Bulleit Bourbon
  • 1 sugar cube
  • 5-10 dash of Black Walnut Bitters
  • 1/2 teaspoon of brandied spiced cherry jus (all spice, lemon, clove, cherries, simple syrup, cinnamon stick)
  • Ice
  • Orange Rind, burnt

In a mixing glass, place one sugar cube. Douse it with Black Walnut Bitters and then add 1/2 teaspoon of the cherry jus. Muddle till a sugary paste, then add 2 oz of bourbon of choice (we use Bulleit at my bar). Fill mixing glass with ice, stir, then let sit. Prep the rocks glass with a king cube, peel an a rind from an orange over the glass so that the juice spray falls in the glass. Burn the orange rind with a lighter and throw it in the glass. Give the mixing glass contents a final, hearty stir then pour through strainer into glass. Garnish with a cherry. Voila!

Takes a little time, but well worth it.

Happy Kentucky Day!
