October 2 – Day 276

National Name Your Car Day came and went and seeing as how I don’t own a car I just decided to celebrate Christina’s van ‘The Pickle’ – arguably the best ‘named’ cars on the road

It’s a little more pistachio-y than pickle-y but I digress

Duncan and I have had some marvellous adventures in this beast and I will be forever grateful for having the chance to get acquainted with this dilly of a  Pickle!

October 1 – Day 275

Every day in the Big Big city is National Take Your Dog for a Walk Day

No kicking the back door open and throwing the little guy out in the backyard to do his business

No sir, or mame, not in the big big city. Gotta walk the little guy around the block

He gotta find some bushes to pee on and some slight inclines to pooh on

Made a little time lapse video of our daily ordeal

September 28 – Day 272

This National Drink a Beer Day  will break the tie between beer and burgers for most national holidays created for them.

The highlight reel of beer related holidays already celebrated by yours truly this year include; National Beer Lover’s Day International Beer Day National IPA Day Beer Day , and  National Beer Can Day

I went for dinner at Vij’s with Christina and Maggie.  The rooftop patio with fairy lights and communal seating was delightful. Vij himself came over to see how we were enjoying things. I, as usual, got too star struck to say anything clever or ask for a picture.

While Christina and Maggie indulged in some elaborate cocktails, I chose a pilsner off the beer menu to ‘drink a beer’ for National Drink a Beer Day. We shared a bunch of entrees and then Christina snuck off and paid for the entire bill as a treat. How nice.

September 27 – Day 271

National Chocolate Milk Day

Yee haw. Got some Natur-a Chocolate Soy milk in the ‘juice box’ format to conjure up some childhood memories

I don’t think soy milk was around in my childhood so no memories were conjured

September 26 – Day 270

September 26 is National Dumpling Day

Hi-Nippon on my block makes a mean gyoza, which I am going to interpret as a dumpling for the sake of  this post ( sake was in italics as it was Japanese cuisine pun, for you uncultured swine out there)

I went there an had myself an order

To the best of my knowledge and experience, they were perfect

Sometimes foods like this can be so greasy but these guys at Hi-Nippon do a fantastic job

September 25 – Day 269

National Binge Day

Watch the fuck out, darlings.
Got me some real deal nachos (no Daiya cheese pour moi merci beacoup ) and said

and ate til I felt reasonably sick

September 23 – Day 267

Mini rant for International Rabbit Day, followed by a phoning-it-in style post

(FYI: Phoning it in refers to a reporter phoning a story into their newspaper instead of writing, editing and submitting from the home office. .. kinda like Twitter…. ‘going through the motions’…not necessarily hitting the home run, according to some guy on the internet one time)

So, before Duncan arrived in safely and soundly in Vancouver, I inquired to Christina, quite innocently enough, that, perhaps, in the intermittent time we potentially, perhaps, explore the possibility of a getting a little Lionhead Rabbit

Anyway.
Mean Old Christina said “NOOO THEY SMELL, YOU IIIIIDDDDDIOT !!!”

Yeah and so it was, without a doubt.. dare I say undoubtedly, the worst experience of my life

And for those of you familiar with my life story, that must mean a lot

Rude.

So, when International Rabbit Day arose, nearly a year later, you know I was bitter as all hell, and had no rabbits to celebrate with.

I persevered, nevertheless, thanks to the Instagram bunny filter

September 22 Day 266

On National Doodle Day  I saw a client, whom I regularly see, who is in a great deal of pain, both emotionally and physically

Confidentiality is highly important in the therapy/counselling world so this blog post must remain a wee bit cryptic to help maintain the trust

Usually they work away, diligently and intuitively, in a session, and I observe. But today, for reasons beyond National Doodle Day and this blog, I was compelled to make some response art .

I have the hopeful feeling it meant a lot to them to receive this piece but my biggest hope is that it gave them a sense of empowerment

September 21 – Day 265

National Pecan Cookie Day

While not tremendously popular, they still, somehow, warrant a national holiday

Good for you, Pecan Cookie!
I did my best to source a pure pecan cookie- one that was just cookie and pecan, but they are hard to come by… but I did find some Pecan chocolate chip cookies at the super cute bakery that’s near my elementary school practicum

They had both white and milk chocolate chips in them… and were  a bit hard as they were ‘day olds’ as they call ’em the biz (meaning they are a day old). Whatever, I’m grateful for any reason to wail on a bag of cookies, can I get an amen up in here?

September 17 – Day 260

September 17th was the 36th National Terry Fox Day

Terry Fox is a Canadian, as well as my personal, hero.

I really can’t talk about him without welling up, I just think he was such an amazing person and gift to the world. Legend has is my Nana Byrne brought him some of her famous Carrot Cake when he was running through her town in Stephenville

Sarah’s birthday always falls around it’s date

Last year, I went by myself as it was within weeks of my arrival in Vancouver

This year I had Duncan and Meg…and 2nd Cousin once removed Toast

This year I had to add Melvin to the list

What can I say? It was painful as fuck

But I really do adore the concept of the Marathon of Hope and Terry’s legacy
