National Dessert Day
The sweetest day of the year HAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHA!
It seemed like such an ‘obscure’ holiday to the fine folk at CNBC, that it prompted some further investigation on all these ‘strange’ national holidays
I’m over here like bitch don’t get me started
Anyway, I had a donut, as usual
It was ‘meh’ because it wasn’t chocolate
National Cream Filled Donut Day!!!
As you can imagine, I was counting down the days to this particular national holiday.
Not that I was reserving eating a cream filled donut for this day, as I will eat a cream filled donut any damn day I please.
Cartem’s September vegan friendly special is a Purple Yam (Ube Halaya)
Ube Halaya stuffed yeast donut with milk glaze and dolce de leche drizzle
I’m guessing they use some sort of milk alternative but neglected to put it in their description
I made sure to get there at juuuuussst the right time (can’t go too early, as they may not have been delivered, can’t go too late as they will sell out… 11:15 is a good try) to pick one up for National Cream Filled Donut Day
Well I gotta be honest, it was not my jam.
Potato stuffed donut is just too far down the slippery slope of starches for me, people.
I toughed it out but am looking forward to what their October offerings bring
Sticky Bun Day!
What is a sticky bun, you may ask? Couldn’t tell you. However when I searched “Best Sticky Bun in Vancouver” Grounds for Coffee appeared to be #1 . When I got there all they served was cinnamon buns. So I am going to presume that sticky buns and cinnamon buns are one and the same.
It was a beautiful sunny day and Kathleen and I took Duncan for a walk all the way to Point Grey to this Mecca of Sticky Buns. I bought a four pack because that was some sort of deal. They slathered on the cream cheese frosting and put them in a biodegradable box and off we went back to my apartment. I put on the kettle to French Press some coffee and Kathleen and I (and Duncan, to a degree) indulged in these delicious ‘sticky buns’. Boy were they sticky.
I ate one and a half and then got one of my glucose induced highs where my vision sort of blurs and I get really tired. I’m convinced I’m spectrum diabetic. The rest of the day was a blur.
Duncan was super cuddly this morning so it was hard to get out of bed.
The weather wasn’t as fine as it had been yesterday, which was disappointing because I had awoken with a much better disposition.
It was National Ferris Wheel Day so I looked into indulging in a spin- Vancouver seems like the kind of place that would have a Ferris wheel kicking around somewhere. Turns out they do … but just during the Christmas holidays.. unfortunate indeed.
So I just kept it simple and decided I would celebrate Valentine’s Day with my little doggy Duncan and some donuts – my two great loves.
We went to our favourite donut shop, Cartem’s ( Lucky’s, right next door, doesn’t allow dogs, so Duncan isn’t fussy).
Cartem’s did not disappoint – they had some beautiful Valentine specialty donuts baked up. I got Christina one as well and headed home.
One was Champagne Glazed with Raspberry Pearls & white chocolate drizzle and the other was a vegan Strawberry Jelly Stuffed one.
After I shot a series of photos with them and Duncan, I laid them down on the counter and proceeded to knock a glass of water all over them.
They ‘sogged’ up instantaneously and were ruined, like, total mush.
Salvaging what I could, I ate the icing off the top and gave some to Duncan, but, sadly, most went in the garbage.
Total bummer… but luckily Christina came home from work and brought me chocolate so all was well in the world.
