December 15 – Day 350

One thing I will definitely not miss when this Celebrate Everyday… Literally project is over is having to arbitrarily eat sugary nonsense !!

National Cupcake Day will mark one of my last sucrose loaded holiday

These are vanilla cupcakes with vanilla icing with tiny sprinkles – known as Hundreds and Thousands in Australia, FYI.

Yummy AF

December 7 – Day 342

Cotton Candy was one of my favourite things as a kid. I used to love when ‘the fair’ (Thomas Amusements) would come to town so I could get my paws on it

It was also my favourite scent – any lip gloss or perfume or shampoo that smelled like it was a total shut-up-and-take-my-money moment

I didn’t even know where to find cotton candy for National Cotton Candy Day

Luckily Bulk Barn came through in a pinch

As an adult, who is not nearly as sugar crazed, I now get to see it for the beautiful, colourful cloud-like bundle of aesthetic wonder that it is

This lot looks like sparrow

This one looks like a cumulus cloud

This one a cirrus cloud

I feel like I could start an Instagram all about it – shapes of cotton candy, the modern day Rorschach test

November 30 – Day 335

As I ruminate on mason jars for National Mason Jar Day, I come to terms with the fact that I’m a lot like that little old lady from the Franks Hot Sauce commercial

“I put that shit on everything”

Except with mason jars, like, it’s more so like “I put everything in that shit”

Sorta the same.

Soup, beer, kombucha, peanut sauce, water, cocktails, ice coffees, painting supplies, pencils, green juice, green tea, chilli, urine samples… the list is endless

I salute you, John Landis Mason, for creating these sons of bitches, though I have a hard time wrapping my head around the idea that a man invented these, no offence.

November 29 – Day 334

National Rice Cake

The food I always forget about but honestly think is great

I generally go for the brown rice cakes, when I am eating them for real (like with hummus and avocado, or with PB & banana), but for this holiday, I went ‘crrrazzzzyy’ by getting some dill pickle flavoured rice cake chips

Pure salt and MSG no doubt

But I’ll be damned if they didn’t take a mean photo

November 28 – Day 333

Being National French Toast Day meant … IMG_5585.JPG

French Toast !!!!!

100% vegan – 100% homemade! I used my super duper fancy domestic goddess vegan whole wheat flax bread   then made a concoction based on what varying parties on the internet said to do

Nothing seemed ‘quite right’ so I had to go with my ‘gut’ :

  • 1 banana
  • 1 tablespoon of chia seeds
  • 1 tablespoon of ground flax seed
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla
  • 3/4 cup of almond/cashew/coconut milk
  • 1 tablespoon of maple syrup
  • dash cinnamon
  • dash nutmeg
  • Whole wheat bread
  • berries & coconut for garnish

Combine the first 8 things into a pasty solution. Dip bread. Fry. When golden brown, remove and garnish

This was totally fine but very smooshy and gooshy. I would definitely put forth more effort next time finding a recipe that has had positive feed back and then not make up something I know nothing about, in the future

November 10 – Day 315

Awww National Vanilla Cupcake brought me to a new little place in Vancouver that I’d never been to- Fairy Cakes.

It was the sweetest little bake shop with an assortment of different vegan things

There was a true home made flavour to this tiny fella. It was just the right amount of sweetness and cakiness

It’s always nice to ‘get out of the house’ and go to a new neighbourhood and this was ‘icing on the cake’ 😉

November 7 – Day 312

National Bittersweet Chocolate with Almonds Day

(Please don’t embarrassingly confuse this with National Chocolate Covered Almond Day, whatever you do- that was sooo July 8th)

I got this bar at Welk’s, one of my favourite little shops in Vancouver. The brand is Galerie aux Chocolat and it’s from Belgium. This bar had almonds WITH the chocolate. I ate the whole damn thing and got a sugar headache.

November 6 – Day 311

National Nacho Day

Can’t have nachos without the cheese, so busted out the Vitamix blender and made some crazy ass vegan cheese sauce – recipe as featured on Oh She Glows

Simply gorgeous

My nacho cheese came out a lot more like this:

Not even orange.

But delicious nevertheless. I had some of my home made chilli sitting around, begging to be splayed over some tortilla chips

Added my misbegotten cheese sauce and some guacamole and I had myself a fine National Nacho Day!

November 5 – Day 310

National Donut Day

L. O. L

Jokes on you, National Holiday Calendar: EVERYDAY is National Donut Day!

Hell, it was National Donut Day on June 2nd as well

I kid you not

But I don’t care

I relish the opportunity to eat a donut and make a blog post about it

Went to good ol’ faithful dog friendly Cartems and sampled their vegan fare. This was their monthly feature “The Main”

November 3 – Day 308

National Sandwich Day got me like whoa

I’ve been growing my own sprouts on and off for years.
It’s really easy.
You get some sprouting seeds like alfalfa seeds or mung beans
Then you soak about a tablespoon of them over night in filtered water.
Then you strain and rinse, strain and rinse, strain and rinse.
Do that for like a 5 days.
And you get sprouts.
You’re like a little Farmer Brown in your very own kitchen.
Or living room.
Wherever you wanna store your sprouts.

Now my genius touch on the process is using a French Press. It makes it so easy for straining!

Anyway, back to National Sandwich Day.

I channelled my inner Sandwich Artist and layered some hummus, cucumber and sprouts on some flax seed whole wheat bread
